She was so smart, kind, pure-hearted, giving and a hard worker who didn’t take anything for granted. Lydia’s siblings would often say “she was quick to compliment and slow to judge”. These traits, along with her talent, were why her coaches and teammates felt lucky to have her on their side. She was the type of player that every coach wants on their team – always willing to put what was best for the team above all and always pushed herself to be better. Lydia never just sat and waited for things to come to her - she was too eager to see what the world had to offer which made her quite the adventurer. She loved getting out of the house, even it was just taking a car ride while dancing to music or hanging out in the front yard dribbling the soccer ball. She loved meeting new people, making new friends, and creating lasting memories. She was always looking for ways to take whatever she was doing at the time and make the most out of it for herself and everyone around her. This beautiful spirit was always present without exception.

I will never forget our game against Oakville early in the season. We had a defender go down and we weren't sure who to put in the spot. I loved Lydia's energy and how she carried herself with eagerness and confidence especially for a freshman. I thought if I'm going to take a gamble on filling this big role (I tend to have very high sxpectations for my defenders) then I'm willing to gamble on Lydia based on her energy and spirit alone. I call Lydia over and ask if she's ever played defence. She says no but I would love to try and I'll do my best. She gave me all the confidence that I needed to put her in. She absolutly killed it that game! It makes me smile just thinking about this conversation with her.
